High Point- Mrs. Rachel Leonard Garner, 85, of High Point passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Hospice of the Piedmont. Mrs. Garner was born on November 3, 1932 to the late William and Laura Thompson Leonard. She was a 1951 graduate of High Point High School and a life long member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a preschool teacher and member of the choir. She started working in the family business of Weno Power Equipment as a Secretary/Bookkeeper in 1973 until she became ill in 2003.

She was a Charter member and President of the Tempo Dance Club and a member of the High Point Twirlers Square Dance Club. She had a strong passion for singing and dancing.

Rachel was a wonderful wife, mother, mother in law, sister and friend to all who came her way. She dearly loved her kind, loving and patient husband, Bill, of 65 years. He was also her caretaker when she became ill in 2003 until she passed away. Their strong love and commitment to each other along with their faith in God carried them through the many battles of her illness. Rachel's son and daughter was her pride and joy whom she also loved very much.

She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Garner; daughter Jane Garner; son David Garner and wife G'Anzie; niece Laura Jean Russ; nephews Bill Malpass and wife Shirley; Stephen Ellington and wife Cindy; sister Wilma Ellington and her late sisters Christine Malpass and Marion Leonard.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive in High Point with Rev. Dr. Jeff Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the Asbury Room adjacent to the sanctuary.
