Ralph Broberg passed awaypeacefully on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Goodwin House, Falls Church, Va. Born in Chicago, August 17, 1920, Ralph grew up in Berwyn, Ill. with hisparents, the late Ralph Oscar Magnus Broberg and Lillian Pavel Broberg. A graduateof Morton Junior College in Cicero, Ill., he received his engineering degreefrom the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1942 (Go Blue!).
He moved to Arlington, Va. in the late 1940s to work for the Navy Department asan Aeronautical Engineer, and retired in 1980 from the Naval Air SystemsCommand. He was active in the Washington (D.C.) Hearing Society, where he methis lip reading teacher, the former Rose Violet Feilbach, She became hisbeloved wife in 1954; and they were married 55 years until her death in 2009. Ralph doted on their only child, Pamela, and their grandchildren MickeySinger and Rose Margaret Broberg who adored and survive him.
His myriad friends loved Ralph's gregariousness, kindness, sense of humor andgenerous nature, Rose and Ralph "adopted" many young people during their longlife together and often times hosted international students from many differentcountries. A member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church fromshortly after its founding in 1940, Ralph served as Treasurer for decades, onthe Church Council and many other committees. In retirement, he and Rosetraveled the globe. Ralph also worked as a volunteer Loaned Executive forUnited Way and did the CROP Walk and Christmas in April among other activities,and logged more than 1,000 hours in the cardiac exercise program at VirginiaHospital Center.
His funeral will take place July 26 at 11a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 6201 Washington Blvd. Arlington, VA22205.
A Celebration of Life will take placeAugust 3 at 2 p.m. at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads, 3440 S. Jefferson St.,Falls Church, VA 22041.
