Rebecca Lillian Wittliff of Austwell, Texas, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015 after a long, brave struggle with cancer. Born in Victoria, Texas on September 28, 1951 to the late Herbert and Edna (Huebner) Wittliff, she was the youngest of 4 children in the Wittliff family. Rebecca attended schools in Austwell and Tivoli, TX. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1970. As a graduate of Incarnate Word College in 1974, she was a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society and received her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics along with her Teacher Certificate.
Rebecca taught home economic classes in the Calhoun County ISD and Shiner ISD. She served as a sponsor of the yearbook and marveled at the amount of time required to produce it. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Music was one of her many interests. The Beatles came to Houston in 1964 and she attended their concert. Their singing was one of her fond memories of the 60's.
Ceramics, cooking (she won 2 Grand Championships for her talents in the Refugio County Fair), embroidery and sewing were some of her many interest.
Genealogy was one of her passions in life and she spent many an hour pursuing clues found in old records at courthouses, churches and cemeteries. As a family, we will always be indebted to her for her knowledge and dedication. Her sister, Phyllis, went along with her on their many trips to locate information and leave flowers on family graves.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Herbert "Herb" Randolph Wittliff.
Rebecca is survived by her two sisters; Paulette (Wittliff) and James D. Icard and Phyllis (Wittliff) Whiteaker; as well as four nephews, David Icard, Sean Icard, James Whiteaker IV and Miles Whiteaker; and three nieces, Molly (Icard) Williams, Amanda (Whiteaker) Craig and Amber (Whiteaker) Copeland. There are also numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Tivoli. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Yorktown.
