Rena LaFawn (Lewallen) Whiteley age 87 of Eddy, passed on to her heavenly home on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Westview Manor in McGregor.
Rena was born April 20, 1929 to Ada (Slate) and JC "Buck" Lewallen in Ghouldbusk, TX Coleman County. She attended school at Bruceville Eddy. Rena was married to Ira D. Whiteley, September 6, 1946 until his death August 24, 1981. Together they raised three boys and one girl. She was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She took great pride in her family, flowers, and animals. Rena was affectionately known by many as Grandma Fawnie, a name given to her by her grandson, Jonathan. She worked at the Moody Rest Home for over 35 years as a certified Nurse's aid until her retirement in the 1990's.
Rena was preceded in death by her parents, son, Anthony Whiteley and sister, Mary Gan. She was also preceded in death by her very good friend, Clara Mae (Maise) Wade who just recently passed.
Survivors include her children, James Ira Whiteley, Pamela Wallace and husband Stanley both of Eddy and Phil Whiteley and wife Anna of Arlington; sister, Jimmie Gibbs of Austin; and sister-in-law, Louise Whiteley of Los Cruces, NM. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Westview Manor for such great care of our mom over the years. The family would also like to give a very special thanks to Providence Hospice for keeping her comfortable until the end.
Rena will be available for viewing from 2 to 6:00p.m., Sunday, August 21, at the Cole Funeral Home Moody Chapel.
Graveside services will be held 11:00a.m., Monday, August 22, at Eddy Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Eddy Baptist Church Anex following graveside services.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bruceville Eddy Fire and Emergency First Responders in memory of Ira D. Whiteley.
