Ricardo Efrain Saldivar Jr, 57, of Marengo passed away February 6, 2017, at his home.
He was born April 19, 1959, in Monterrey, CA, to Ricardo and Doree (Sachs) Saldivar Sr. Ricardo grew up in McAllen, TX, and graduated from McAllen High School (Class of '77). He earned a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Texas at Pan American, where he served as student government President. Then he attended the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Ricardo worked for The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston MA for 16 years, most recently as marketing manager for The Christian Science Sentinel and The Christian Science Herald magazines. After leaving the employ of the Christian Science Church Center in 2004, Ricardo relocated to Illinois where he served as a Christian Science practitioner until his passing. Fluent in both English and Spanish, in June 2009, Ricardo was appointed to the Christian Science Board of Lectureship and lectured on Christian Science throughout the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. In December, 2015, he also became an authorized teacher of Christian Science. On July 3, 2006, he married Mary Beth Nelson in Elgin. Ricardo expressed joy through his warmth, sense of humor, passion for life, and love to all he met. His cheerful laughter filled the room when family reunions took place. He loved traveling, museums, art, theatre, and music. His primary passion was to serve God and to help others gain healing through a better understanding of God and His relationship to each one of His children. He was a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, MA (The Mother Church) and First Church of Christ, Scientist, Rockford (local branch church).
Ricardo is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; his sister, Roxana (Gerardo) Saldivar Guerrero; his aunt, Dannette Sachs; his sisters-in-law, Candi (Buddy) Eggert and Melodee (Michael) Scott; his nieces and nephews, DiDi, Jared, and Stephen Guerrero, Amanda Eggert, Rebecca (Chris) Lilja, and Deanna and Michelle Scott; and many dear friends and extended family members both in the United States and Mexico.
