Richard Bruce Chapman November 27, 1939 - November 8, 2017
Richard (Dick) Chapman of San Rafael, California, passed away on November 8th after a long respiratory illness. He grew up with four brothers in the Township of Greece, a suburb of Rochester, New York, and graduated from John Marshall High in 1957. In 1961 he earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Rochester.
After many years enduring severe winters in Rochester, a warmer climate beckoned. Dick was offered an accounting position with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG) in Honolulu. There he met Nancy and they were married in 1963. In 1966 he requested a transfer to the San Francisco office and moved to Marin County. After a few years he left PMM & Co. and began working for Wallace, Meyer & Co. in Oakland where he later became the Managing Partner.
Dick had a passion for good wine, dining out and reading, especially mystery novels. Before his illness he enjoyed traveling to Europe, Japan and South America, skiing in Tahoe and golfing with friends.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Mark and his wife Christine, grandchildren Lindsey and Alec; daughter Lauren Cross (Philip) and grandchildren Nicholas, April and Steffan; brothers Neil (Emily), Donald (Linda), Ronald (Katherine) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Richard K. and Ruth E. Chapman and his brother David Chapman.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., November 25th, at Church of the Nativity, 333 Ellen Drive, San Rafael, California. A reception will follow at The Club Restaurant at McInnis Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Church of the Nativity or Hospice by the Bay, 17 E.Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA. 94939
