Richard Carver Lowery

Richard Carver Lowery, 69. of Arlington died on Thursday, October 20, due to complications of lung cancer. He was surrounded at the end by members of his family and close friends.
Mr. Lowery was born in Washington D.C. on October 23, 1941, the son of the late Dave and Lucile Lowery. He graduated in 1959 from Washington Lee High School, in 1964 from Davidson College and in 1967 from the University of Virginia School of Law. He was a partner in the Washington office of Kirkland & Ellis and later was a founding partner of the firm Wiley, Rein, LLC. He was an active philanthropist and an especially strong believer in excellence in higher education.
Mr. Lowery was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gail. He is survived by his two sons, Kirk Lowery of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and his wife Elizabeth; Clay Lowery of Arlington and his fiancée, Sheila Herrling; his brother Jack Lowery of Auburn, California, and his wife Dorothy; and four grandchildren, Bennett, Caroline, Hayden, and Dylan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Doorways for Women and Families.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, at the Arlington Funeral Home, 3901 N. Fairfax Drive in Arlington. A reception at the family home will follow.
