Richard "Bill" Gilbreath, was born June 2, 1922, in Winnsboro, Texas and passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017.
Born to George N. Gilbreath and Jeanetta Galloway Gilbreath. Bill was the 10th child of 13 children (4 brothers and 5 sisters, plus three adopted children). He married Betty Hernandez, August 31, 1959 and they were together until his death. Bill enlisted in the Navy during WWII, October 25, 1942 where he was highly decorated as a Navy diver and survived many perilous dives. He was honorably discharged as a Motor Machinist's mate, First Class, July 24, 1945. He shared his story in the book - Their War, Their Words. After the Navy, he had many careers until he found his calling in flooring working throughout the states (mainly California and Texas). He has lived in California and the Beaumont area prior to moving to Lumberton Texas where he has lived for 47 years.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, four brothers & five sisters, three adopted brothers and sisters and step-son Donald (Donnie) Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife Betty; children: Patrick Gilbreath and his wife Patricia, Gayle Lineman and her husband Danny Jack and Judy Juda and her husband Luke; step-children: Daniel (Danny) Hernandez and wife Mary, Sharon (Susie) Milner and husband Curtis; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
