Richard "Hoot" Squire, age 73 of Westport, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Ann (Lawton) Squire to whom he had been happily married to for 42 years.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Hooton and Rachel (Stanley) Squire, he was a long time Westport resident. Richard was a graduate of Vermont Academy and The University of Vermont ('67). As a 1st Lieutenant of the United States Army, he served during the Vietnam Conflict, stationed in Thailand. For many years Hoot was employed as the New England sales representative for Woolrich Inc., always ensuring that his friends and family had a warm coat.

Hoot loved his family dearly, he was a prankster who was beloved in Westport and greater New England for his positive attitude, entertaining stories and infectious smile. He enjoyed traveling with Ann and took great pride in the daily activities of his three sons; Cabot, Ben & Alex. As an avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing, tennis, golf, skiing and hockey. In his later years, he spent many peaceful, happy hours, listening to Angeline Brook and watching over the donkey's, goats and fowl of Tiny Ass Farm.

Besides being survived by his wife, Hoot was predeceased by his eldest son Cabot (1977-2007) and is survived by two sons; Benjamin Squire, his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Vera, of Westport, MA and Alexander Squire of Charlestown, MA. In addition, he will be missed by a daughter in-law, Kate Squire-Cass of ME; his sister, Polly Gardner and her husband Lee of Adamsville, RI.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11:00AM in the United Congregational Church, 4 South of Commons Road, Little Compton. Friends and relatives are invited. Burial is private. Arrangements are in the care of WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter Street, Fall River.
