Richard C. Oleksa, age 64, of Amherst, died Saturday March 10, 2012 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 20, 1947 in Lorain and has lived in Brownhelm Twp. for 30 years. He was a 1965 graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School. He went on to Lorain County Community College for one year and transferred to Ohio University where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in Engineering. He served in the US Navy as a pilot, where he held the rank of Lieutenant JG and was stationed in Guam during the Vietnam War. He worked at US Steel for 15 years and then worked for Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Co. as an Inspector for over 25 years. He was a longtime member of the Florence Township Fire Dept. and also served as their Treasurer. Richard also was an active member of the Henrietta United Methodist Church. He was very talented with his hands, having built his home and putting additions on it. He enjoyed sailboat racing, biking, traveling with family and friends, golf, and tinkering on classic sport cars. He was an avid sports fan of all the home teams.
He is survived by his wife of over 26 years Cinc (Cynthia) (Angersbach) Oleksa, two daughters Jayci (Michael) Wissinger, of Wakeman, Kayli Oleksa, of Amherst, his mother Mary (Yanikov) Oleksa, of Lorain, his siblings, Patricia Bushong-Maupin, of FL, Linda (Tom) Burrer, of Elyria, and Don Oleksa, of North Ridgeville, three grandchildren, Jolee, Mya, and Kinsey, father and mother-in-law Rolland and Shirley Angersbach, of Henrietta Twp., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Charlie J. Oleksa, and his son Robert C. Oleksa.
Friends may call on Thursday March 15 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. Services will be held on Friday March 16 at 10:00 am at the Henrietta United Methodist Church 52148 Telegraph Road (St. Rt. 113) Amherst. Pastor Armando Arellano will be officiating. Burial will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery.
