After a long, hard battle with cancer, Richard Raymond Bergbreiter died on March 26, 2017, in Union, IL at the age of 63.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Helen and devoted sons, Richard Jr. and Steven.
Richard was born on November 11, 1953 in Chicago, IL, to father Raymond Bergbreiter and
mother Eileen (Triner) Bergbreiter, who predeceased him.
He grew up in a loving family with two sisters and one brother.
The family lived in Chicago, IL and Camdenton, Missouri.
Richard married his childhood sweetheart, Helen Pszczola, on February 20, 1971.
Shortly after they married, they began their family: Richard Raymond Bergbreiter Jr. was followed by Steven Michael Bergbreiter.
When the boys were young, they relocated to Huntley, IL to raise their boys.
Richard was a driven professional, working all his life in the drywall field.
He loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Along with his sons, he spent many hours in the fields of Wisconsin hunting deer, one of his many loves.
Richard spent many summers with family and friends in the outdoors of Canada, fishing for countless hours trying to catch the best walleye in the lakes.
When diagnosed with brain cancer in 2014, he remained dedicated in his family and in his will to fight his illness.
He remained a brave, iron-willed man, even throughout his final months.
If anything characterized Rich's life, it was devotion to his family.
From the day he and Helen married until he went to eternity, his highest priority was always his family.
Every day, Helen knew that she was the love of his life.
He was always a model of husband and father to his boys, who loved him deeply and modeled their lives after him.
As "Papa" to his grandsons, he was an eager supporter of all their Scouting and sports activities.
The little boys knew they would always see their Papa in the stands, cheering them on! All will miss him greatly.
Richard is survived by his wife and children, Richard (Keri) and Steven (Lisa), as well as his grandsons Wyatt and Jacob (Richard) and Alten (Steven).
He also leaves behind his sisters, Kathleen Bergbreiter Dornan (Allen) and Tina Bergbreiter Laudick (Andy);
his brother, Danny (Paula); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard requested to be cremated. A memorial and fellowship will be held at Marengo Union Funeral Home,
505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo, IL, on Saturday, April 1, 2017, from 12:00-3:00 pm with the service at 3:00 pm.
The family would especially like to thank everyone for their condolences but we ask in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital
(a charity that means a lot to Richard) or Journey Hospice Care (for their support in Rich's last days).
