Richard "Dick" Theodore Veatch, age 86, of East Peoria passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at OSF in Peoria.



He was born August 1, 1931 in Peoria to Lester Gilmore and Edith (Bidleman) Veatch. They preceded him in death along with three siblings: Lester Elmer Veatch, Paul Gilmore Veatch, and Mary Jane Juteau.



Survivors include three sons: Timothy of Bloomington, IL, Leonard (Roberta) of Morton, IL, and Brian (Angela) of Wildwood, MO; companion of 23 years, Myrna Hawkins of East Peoria; grandchildren: Alex, Sarah, and Beckett; and siblings: Dorothy Tuckosh of Washington state and Robert Veatch of Las Vegas, NV.





Raised in Rutland, IL he graduated from Toluca High School in 1950 playing baseball and basketball varsity, repaired bikes at his uncle's shop, worked for the railroad, and built his mother a house in Rutland. After serving in the US Infantry during the Korean War, he attended Bradley University and married Barbara Sandra Gerches in 1961. As a trade, he laid brick for a number of high rises on Chicago's Gold Coast, the East Peoria ICC campus, St. Francis hospital, as well as his own home he designed on the banks of the Illinois River. He was accomplished at ballroom dancing and enjoyed cards, billiards, and traveling.



Visitation will be Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria and also for the hour prior to funeral services on Friday, January 12 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.



Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria with Military Honors. Deacon Bob Myers will officiate.
