Richard Thomas Shahan, 42, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 after a brief illness. Rick was surrounded by family and friends as he passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus.

Rick was born February, 18, 1975 to Paula and Bill Shahan. He attended school at West Texas

Rehabilitation Center and Wylie Schools. Rick became a resident of the Abilene State Supported Living Center in 1996. He led a full and active life. He knew no limitations. His activities included bowling, miniature golf, movies and dancing. Rick was the vice president of Aktion Club - affiliated with Kiwanis and received the State award for the clubs community service in Austin. Rick was a resident representative on the Human Rights committee and participated in New Employee orientation. He gave many presentations in the Abilene area promoting AbSSLC to various schools and civic clubs via his talking computer. Rick hosted a Super Bowl party for family, friends and staff. It was an annual tradition for 19 years. Rick had a smile for everyone and a sense of humor enjoyed by all who met him.

Rick is survived by his mother, Paula Bell Shahan; father and stepmother, Bill and Christine Shahan; brother, Keith and wife Kimberly; stepsister, Jill Bowden and husband Scott all of Abilene; Sister, Patricia Gibson and husband Johnny of Odessa; stepsister, Jennifer Chaikin of Rowlett; and, stepbrother Nicholas and wife Candice of Lexington, TX. He is also survived by Aunt Bettye Bagley, Aunt Dorothy Hysel; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 2:00PM in the Chapel at Abilene State Supported Living Center under the direction of Dr. Billy Spencer, Chaplain.
