RMCM James Michael Moriarty, USN (Ret.), 76, of the 1500 block of Beachview Dr., Virginia Beach, VA, passed away March 17, 2012, in Sentara Leigh Hospital. A native of Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late James and Helen Moriarty. He retired from the United States Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer after 34 years of service. He also worked for Venture Tours. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Katherine F. "Katie" Moriarty; two daughters, Patricia M. Nelson and husband Michael of Virginia Beach, VA and Cathleen M. Ronaghan and fiancé John Mackay of Boston, MA and Virginia Beach, VA; three sons, James M. Moriarty, Jr. and wife Theresa and Paul J. Moriarty, both of Naples, FL and Jack D. Moriarty and wife Marsha of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Michael V. Moriarty; and seven grandchildren, Caitlyn, Zachary, Jack, Megan, Kelly, Jimmy and Gracey. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at The Catholic Church of the Ascension with Fr. Charles L. Breindel officiating. The burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel is in charge.
