Robert "Bob" Allen Smith, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018 in Houston, Texas.
Bob was an 8th grade graduate, left home at 14 years old to work on neighboring farms and enlisted in the Air Force in March of 1952. In 1956, he met the love of his life, Nancy Florine Sanches, while on a training mission in Nacogdoches, TX. While serving his country, he was awarded a National Defense Service and a Good Conduct medal prior to his honorable discharge in 1957. Shortly thereafter, he returned to Houston where Bob & Nancy were married May 4, 1957. In 1960, they welcomed twin girls, Lisa & Lynne followed by another little girl, Shelley in 1962. The Smiths purchased their first home in north Houston that remains the family home. While working a day job, Bob attended night school to achieve his goal of becoming a Master Electrician and opening his own business, Royal Electric, in 1972. In the early 1980's, he and Nancy purchased a country place in Centerville, TX that became a vital part of weekend getaways and family celebrations. Bob was a proud Master Mason with the Grand Lodge of Texas, A.F & A.M - Aldine Chapter No. 1412 of Houston, TX. He enjoyed reading, had a great love for Nascar and Pro Football, playing pool, and country music.
Surviving family, his wife of 60 years, Nancy; four Brothers, Harold-wife Wilma, Don-wife Lou, Gordon-wife Sue, Howard Smith; sister, Shirley Smith; three daughters, Lisa Green-husband Rex, Lynne Runnels, and Shelley Collard husband-Jerry; nine grandchildren, Joshua Runnels-wife Devlen, Melissa Smalling, Rex Alan Green, Justin Runnels, Jennifer McDade-husband John, and Connie Gilbow-husband Paul; great grandchildren, Nikolas Runnels, Sophia Smalling, Mikey Smalling, Caitlyn Kravanek, Lindsey Kravanek, Jacob Runnels, Madison Runnels, Taylor McDade, Drake McDade, Johnny Lee Gilbow, Grayson Gilbow as well as a large extended family and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt & Helen Smith; sisters, Alice Ruby, Edith Mae, Peg McClure, Marion Roysden and a grandson, Jeremy Allen Runnels.
Serving as Pallbearers are Rex Wayne Green, Jerry Collard, Joshua Runnels, Rex Alan Green, Justin Runnels and Drake McDade.
Arrangements are under the care of Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home located at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. The visitation will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 5-8 pm with the funeral service on Friday, January 19th at 2 pm followed by a graveside service.
