Old Lyme - Robert "Bob" C. Chapman Jr. , 80, of Old Lyme passed away on December 14, 2016.

Robert C. Chapman Jr. born in Chaplin Connecticut , September 27, 1936 was the son to the late Robert Chapman Sr. and Gladys (White) Chapman.

Bob was a life long resident of Old Lyme. His passion for design and building led him to own Chapman Construction Company, Chapman Pool and Spa, The Elephant Walk Restaurant and The Old Lyme Shopping Center. He was a man ahead of his time with his home and pool designs and has left this legacy throughout the State.

Bob was active in the community by serving on the Zoning Board, a member of the Estuary Lodge,a member and President of the Old Lyme Chamber of Commerce for many years and an active member of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme.

His favorite passions were designing, building and traveling. He went to Africa with the Church on several occasions to assist with Habitat for Humanity as well as Green Grass to the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

He is remembered fondly for his generosity, humor, his love of life and his kindness to others.

He is survived by his sister Phyllis Dooley his brother in law Bruce Dooley, his 3 children Debra Bohara, Randy Chapman and Terry Thurrott ,his fiancé Cheryl Sorensen, his son-in-law George Thurrott and his 4 grandchildren James Bohara, Greg Bohara, Meghan Thurrott and Hailey Thurrott. He is pre-deceased by his brothers John and Richard Chapman.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme on January 7, 2017 at 3pm. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Old Lyme is handling the arrangements.
