Robert Donald Fisher, age 91 died June 10, 2016 at Evansville, IN. He was born July 8, 1924 in Wabash County. He was a member of Grayville Christian Church. He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and Wabash Valley College. He had operated a portable seed cleaner for Wabash County Farm Bureau and Igleheart Elevator and was a retired farmer, an insurance agent, a land man for an acquisition company and a school bus driver for forty plus years for Wabash Community Unit District #348.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcarving, oil painting and target shooting in all the shooting sports.
He was a member of Wabash County Farm Bureau, National Woodcarvers Association, National Rifle Association and a Life Member of Amateur Trapshooters Association. He was also a past member of the Mt. Carmel Rifle Club, Wabash Bowhunters Archery Club and Bellmont Ruritan Club.
As a student he was the winner of a state championship in track, held in Memorial Stadium, University of Illinois. He was a winner of the Illinois Indoor Smallbore Rifle State Championship, winner of the Illinois Mens' Singles Target Archery State Championship three consecutive years and winner of the Illinois Target archery Family Team State Championship with his wife Mary Ann and son Paul Robert, for three consecutive years.
He defeated a member of Jimmy Robinsons' sports afield All-American Trapshooting Team, who was also a member of the Trapshooting Hall of Fame, to win the Indiana State Doubles Trapshooting Championship and tied the national professional Champion with Winchester Western.
He placed third in the Illinois State Doubles Trapshooting Tournament and fifth in the Grand American World Trap Doubles championship at Vandalia, Ohio, defeating the world famous exhibition shooter with Winchester Western Arms Company.
He also won several trophies in pistol shooting competitions.
He received a letter of invitation to compete in the Olympic Trials for trapshooting held at Lincoln Park Traps in Chicago.
He was also the winner of the Illinois Trapshooting Associatin State Trophy Award.
He received the NRA Lifetime Master classification for indoor smallbore rifle from the National Rifle Association, Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Robert Fisher.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann Fisher, whom he married on March 12, 1950 at the First Christian Church in Albion, IL.
He is also survived by his daughter, Janet (Dennis) Payne, daughter-in-law, Sharon Fisher, grandchildren: Matt (Tara) Fisher, Karla Fisher, Eric (Amanda) Fisher and Laurel Payne, great-grandchildren: Andrew Fisher, Katelyn Fisher and Emily Fisher.
Visitation for Robert Donald Fisher will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 11AM to 1PM at Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, IL. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1PM at the funeral home, with burial at Highland Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, IL.
