Robert E. "Bob" Baumann, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 at his home. He was born March 12, 1929 in Remus, Michigan, a son of the late Gregory and Florence (Bidstrup) Baumann. He married June E. (Tempo) Baumann on December 30, 1950 at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church and she survives. The United States Air Force veteran proudly served his country during the Korean War. He retired in 1987 from IBM in St. Louis after 35 years of dedicated service as a customer engineer. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. He had served as a trustee with the Granite City Elks and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-Cities council #1098 and the American Legion Post #113. He enjoyed his days of golfing, bowling, playing cards and being with his grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times spent with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Brian Chudd of Lake Villa, Illinois; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Marilyn Baumann of Granite City and Ken Baumann of Granite City; four grandchildren, Kevin and Sarah Chudd, Lisa and David Bringer, Greg Baumann and Alyssa Baumann; two great grandchildren, Kyle and Molly Chudd; two brothers, Richard Baumann of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Gerald and Beverly Baumann of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; one sister, Kathleen and Donald Staskiewicz of Spring Lake, Michigan; sister-in-law, Grace Lehn of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family; friends and caregivers. In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, William Lehn. In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with an Elk Service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Chris Comerford as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church building fund, Alzheimer's Association or to masses and may be accepted at the funeral home.
