Lt. Col. Robert E. Anderson, Jr. USAF (Ret.) 93, of Marco Island, FL., born January 9, 1924 in Metropolis, IL., passed away on January 2, 2018.

Bob started his flying career as a navigator in the early days of Pan American Airlines, having graduated from Port Arthur College in Texas. During WWII, most of Pan Am's aircraft were pressed in to military service and Robert found himself in the Army Air Corps flying missions serving on the European and Pacific war fronts. After the war, he returned for a short period to Pan AM establishing new commercial air fields in Eastern Europe. He then joined the United State Air Force in its first year and trained as a multi-engine transport aircraft pilot at Reese AFB in Texas.

Bob went on to have an illustrious career as a pilot in the USAF serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Air Force as Lt. Colonel, Chief of Maintenance at Mather AFB in Sacramento, CA. Bob then went to work for McDonnell Douglas as an Aircraft Logistics Manager working on the F-4, F-15 and Harrier programs.

He is preceded in death by wife, Ruth M. Anderson (nee Dust) and parents, Robert E. Anderson and Blanche (Peeler) Anderson.

He is survived by Children: Robert E. (Gillian) Anderson, III, Marco Island, FL., John K. (Laurie) Anderson, West Palm Beach, FL., Linda J. (Jason) Dennis, Ballwin, MO., and Lisa K. (John) Pea, Belleville, IL.; Grandchildren: Katie (Greg) Smucker, Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Daniel Anderson, West Palm Beach, FL., Michelle Anderson, Newport News, VA., Jade Dennis, Ballwin, MO., Dustin (Jacqueline) Gunter, Houston, TX., John Logan Gunter, Belleville, IL., Anna Gunter, Mandeville, LA., and Lexi Gunter, Belleville, IL.; Great Grandchildren: Sylas Gunter, Adeline and Arlo Gunter, Skylar Dascotte, and Ross Robert; Sister: Mary Olive Anderson, Metropolis, IL.
