Robert Gomez Escobedo passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the age of 69. He was born on May 13, 1947 in Gregory, TX to the late Ezequiel and Brijida Escobedo. He attended Gregory High School and completed Barber School at the age of 17. He then worked alongside his parents who owned Escobedo Barber Shop in Gregory, TX. He married Ramona Cantu Castañeda in 1967. He was inducted in the U.S. Army in February 1967. He served in Vietnam where he suffered a traumatic back injury in Qui Nhon. Following his recovery, he returned home and transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves. His dedicated life of military service spanned over 28 years. He held several jobs simultaneously while serving as a Reservist. He began his civil service career as an Aircraft Mechanic with NAS Chase Field in Beeville, TX and retired after many years from NAS Corpus Christi. Robert’s life of service included two terms as Mayor of Gregory, TX and was a member of the City Council. He devoted much of his personal time to The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory, TX

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ramona; daughter, Valerie Jane Escobedo; siblings, Ernesto, Ricardo and Enrique Escobedo.

Robert is survived by his children, Robert (Belinda) Escobedo Jr., Becky (Jesse) Martinez, Michael (Janice) Escobedo and Vince (Sandra) Escobedo; his loving companion, Dominga Rombs; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Ezequiel Escobedo Jr., Angelina Karpinski, Beatrice Blaha, Guadalupe Escobedo and Jose Rene Escobedo and other loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, Taft, TX, on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening.

Visitation will continue at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 107 Church St, Gregory, TX, on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 9:00 am with Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 am. Inurnment will take place at Gregory Cemetery at a later date.
