Robert J. Mather, Sr., 98, of Canaan, beloved husband of Rose Elizabeth (Morton) Mather, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Born in Taftville, CT, to William and Elsie May (Chase) Mather on August 31, 1918, he lived in Preston, CT for many years before moving to Canaan. He served in the US Army, 8th Armored Division, 18th Tank Battalion during W.W. II and worked at United Nuclear Corporation before his retirement. Besides his wife Rose he leaves a daughter Arlene M. Beebe and her husband Dr. Roy Beebe of Farmington; a son Robert J. Mather, Jr., and Bonnie Sheldon of East Canaan; Joann Tuller of Great Barrington; grandchildren Jenna Beebe-Aryee, Brittany Beebe, Tyler Beebe, Lindsay Beebe, Sarah Mather Pollock, Justin Mather, Bethany Mielke and great grandchildren Isabella Pollock, Fiona Pollock and Evan Mielke. A private family memorial will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich. The Carmon Funeral Home of Avon is caring for the arrangements.
