Robert Joseph Bohls, Sr., beloved husband of Sharon Jordan Goodrich, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in Williamsburg, VA after a long illness.

Bob was born March 4, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio to the late Virgil Paul and Laura Catherine (Hosfeld) Bohls. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio in 1957 and the University of Toledo in 1962. He received a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1968 and a Doctorate of Arts degree in Community College Education from George Mason University in 2004. He was a decorated officer in the United States Army from 1962 to 1982, serving in Korea and the Viet Nam War. He was awarded both the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He worked at FMC Corporation from 1982 to 1992. Until his retirement in 2010, Bob was a Professor of Financial Management and Professor of Systems Acquisition at the Defense Acquisition University, Fort Belvoir, VA.

A humble, honest and loving man, Bob was an accomplished small boat sailor, an obsessive orchidist, an enthusiastic painter, and enjoyed country and ballroom dancing. Bob was an enthusiastic educator and loved mentoring his students and anyone else he felt needed his assistance.

He is survived by his children: Marianne (John) Melick, Robert (Carol) Bohls Jr. and Edward (Dawn) Bohls, his granddaughter Erin (Jeffrey) Hansbury, his grandsons John Hansbury and Ethan Hansbury, his stepchildren Joseph Goodrich, Tracy Goodrich Hamilton, his step-grandchildren, Logan Goodrich, Cameron Hamilton, Carter Goodrich and Cassidy Hamilton, his siblings Virgil (Mary Jo) Bohls, Carol (Darrell) Campbell, Gerald Banks, Kathleen (Terrance) Carney, Jeanne (Jack) Rospert, Timothy Bohls, Thomas Bohls, Catherine Bohls and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Bob was preceded in death by his siblings James Bohls and Marie Banks.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg VA and from 9:45 to 10:45 prior to the funeral mass which will be held at 11:00 Tuesday, January 16, at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg VA. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will follow in late spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (theaftd.org).
