Robert (Bob) L. Turpin, 86, of Riverdale, IA, (previously of Bettendorf) died February 6, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport. Visitation will be held Monday, February 9 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at The Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, IA.

A second visitation will be held Wednesday, February 11 in his home town of West Salem, IL at the Ingram Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 12 at 1:00 pm, also at the Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem with burial to follow at the Macedonia Cemetery in West Salem.

Robert was born June 18, 1928 in Noble, IL to parents Sam and Joy Turpin. He lived in the West Salem, IL area throughout his childhood and early adult years. He married Ruth (Fildes) Turpin-Wisner and they had four children.

He moved to the Chicago area in the late 1950s and in 1960 married Barbara (Brod) Wiegel in Mount Prospect, IL. He worked for Montgomery Elevator in Chicago for many years, transferring to the Quad Cities in 1970. He retired from Montgomery Elevator in 1981. He and Barbara owned Turpin RV Storage in Bettendorf until they sold the business in 2007. Together they enjoyed motorcycle riding in earlier years, camping, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling. Robert knew all the major routes in the country, and they traveled extensively throughout North America. Barbara preceded him in death in 2011.

Those left to honor his memory include daughters Barbara Gaulden of Indianapolis, IN and Roberta (Allen) Smith of West Salem, IL; sons Bernard (Marilyn) Turpin of Lancaster, IL and Craig (Terry) Wiegel of Bettendorf, IA; daughter-in-law Cindy Turpin of Burlington, IA; sister Lena (Keith) Wilson of Olney, IL; sister-in-law Nancy (Guy) Klepsteen of Eldridge, IA; grandchildren Angela (Mike) Davidson, Jamie Turpin, Melissa (John) Henson, Rick (Jennifer) Smith, Tricia (Brad) Yonaka, Mike Smith, Angela (Michael) Stadnik, Douglas Wiegel, Robert (Cora) Tomblinson and Chad Risley; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Robert's list of survivors would not be complete without including his Chihuahua, Peppy, a little dog with a big presence who was his constant companion in recent years.

In addition to Barbara, his wife of 52 years, Robert was preceded in death by his son Clyde, his grandson Chris Turpin, and his brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Joan Turpin.
