Robert Rushing Shomo of Shenandoah, Va., was delivered to the Lord on Aug. 21, 2015, at the age of 82.

Born to Samuel Lee Shomo and Mary Smith on April 8, 1933. He married his beloved wife, Golda Kathleen Dovel, on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1954. He is survived by his wife and three children, Jeffrey and wife, Dawn, of Culpeper, Va., Gregory and wife, Carol, of Warrenton, Va., and Cynthia and husband, Marty Offenbacker, of McGaheysville, Va.; his six grandchildren, Diana and husband, Lee Canafax, Jordan, Brooke, Derick, Heather and Olivia; and two greatgrandchildren, Connor Canafax and Lana Fields, with an additional Canafax grandchild due in January.

Robert grew up in Shenandoah, Va., and worked as a plumber before working his way up at Norfolk Southern, eventually earning his engineer license in 1971. Robert retired in 1991 and enjoyed exploring the U.S. by boat, bus, and plane, gardening, and lawn parties.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary; sister, Judy; and brother, Amos, who died in infancy. Robert was a friend to everyone he met and showered his family with absolute love. He gave each family member unconditional support and encouragement. His humor and warmth made it a true joy to be in his presence. Robert put God and family above all else, and he will be deeply missed.
