Robert 'Bob' Reimers passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 surrounded by his family at home in Buckeye, AZ. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bob was born in 1936 in Moline, IL to parents Robert J. Reimers and Dorothy L. (Thomsen) Reimers. He grew up in Moline but graduated high school in Lexington, Missouri from Wentworth Military Academy in 1953. Bob later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1959 with a degree in Pharmacy. It was there in Iowa City where he met his future wife, Caren M. Cole. They were married in 1957.
After graduation, they moved to Dixon IL where Bob started his career as a Pharmacist. They eventually relocated back to Moline where he worked with his father and brother at The Prescription Shops of Moline, their family owned pharmacy. Soon the country life beckoned and Bob and his family moved to Port Byron, IL where they owned horses, goats, ducks, geese, dogs, lots of cats and enjoyed an abundant garden. While living in Port Byron, Bob also opened the Pioneer Pharmacy in Colona, IL as well as Option-Care in downtown Moline.
Once their four children were grown, the couple moved to Glendale, Arizona, where Bob continued his pharmacy career. Upon retiring in 1998, he and Caren moved to Happy Jack, AZ in Northern Arizona. Bob loved living in this beautiful forested part of the state and kept busy riding ATV's and caring for their horses. Bob also became very active with the Blue Ridge Fire Department where he was very instrumental in helping the department build a new firehouse as well as acquire new fire engines.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed many hunting/camping trips to Northern Wisconsin, Wyoming and Colorado with his friends and family. He also enjoyed bike riding and participated in several RAGRAI events. Bob was also a long-time supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Arizona Cardinals.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Caren, his brother Jack (Kathy) and his sister Liz (Larry), his children, Cindy (Mark) Pecilunas of Peoria, AZ, Betsy Reimers of Surprise, AZ, R.J. (Julie) Reimers II of Naperville, IL and Peter Reimers of Phoenix, AZ.; eight grandchildren, Adam (Ally), Alex (Lorissa), Daniel, and Emily Pecilunas, Benjamin Reimers, Katelyn, Anna, and Megan Reimers and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ashleigh Pecilunas.
