Robert "Wayne" Kennedy, also known as Coach K, passed away January
14, 2018 at home surrounded by his loved ones after a brave battle
with cancer.
He was born in San Angelo, TX on May 1, 1946 to Harold and Estalene
Kennedy. Wayne grew up and went to Wall Junior High & High School,
graduating in 1964. Wayne had fond memories of his classmates,
traveling to Wall's playoff games and class reunions. He received a
scholarship to attend Rice University, where he played as an offensive
lineman. After Rice, he was drafted by the Houston Oilers for a short
time before moving to Odessa where he played for the West Texas
Roughnecks. He was Coach at Hood Junior High and later was assistant
Coach at Odessa Permian High School during the "Decade of
Champions", contributing to MoJo's State Championships. He was a
member of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce and Odessa Chuck
Wagon Gang. He married Patricia Ann Kennedy in 1989. They were the
owners of Basin Testers before retiring to the golf course in 2010. They
enjoyed traveling and spending time at the Odessa Country Club. He
loved his wife, his family, his friends and his dog, "Mr. T". Wayne was a
big, strong man that was meticulous to details and liked things a certain
way. Kennedy's "cant's" are legendary and well-remembered. He was
also a gentle, generous, kind soul.spoiling his wife, giving when he saw
a need, teasing and making special bonds with his friends and great
nieces and nephews and training and playing with "T". He is preceded
in death by his parents and niece who was loved as a "daughter", Ula
Bridenstine. He is survived by his wife, Pat Kennedy, his nephews and
nieces and many loved friends. Donations may be made to Home
