Dummerston- Roger Boyd Aquadro, 77, of Knapp Road died unexpectedly Monday morning May 28, 2012 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill at the Memorial Day services at Saint Michael's Cemetery. At the time of his passing he was taking part of the Memorial Day services with Brattleboro's Joint Memorial Unit. Mr. Aquadro was born in Brattleboro on May 19, 1935 the son of Francis and Calista (Boyd) Aquadro. He attended Saint Michael's Parochial School and was a graduate of Saint Michael's High School Class of 1953. He had been a resident of Dummerston since 1965. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict stationed in Porte Prince, Haiti and was honorably discharged from active service at the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Aquadro had been employed as a Para professional at the Brattleboro Union High School Vocational Center with the Building Trade Department which he retired from in 2005. Previously from 1960 to 1998 he had worked as a foreman in the bindery department at the former BookPress in Brattleboro. Active civically, he served on the school board for the town of Dummerston and at Brattleboro Union High School where he served as a chairman of the board. Education and the youth were very important to him. He was an active member of the Marine Corps League, Brattleboro Detachment #789, and member and current president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie #2445. Of his leisure time activities, he thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and all wildlife. Additionally he enjoyed hunting, playing horseshoes, music, playing the steel guitar and spending time with his family especially his four grandchildren and beloved cats. On July 17, 1965 at Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church he was married to Joy Kinsman who predeceased him in November of 2006. Survivors include one son Dana Aquadro and his wife Carla of Dummerston, one daughter, Janel Aquadro and husband Thad Weaver of Wethersfield, Connecticut, a sister, Frances Aquadro of Brattleboro, four grandchildren, Paul, Ella, Grace and Owen, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister Theresa Aquadro Hand. Graveside committal rites will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in Dummerston Center Cemetery with the Very Rev. Richard O'Donnell, V.F. pastor of Saint Michael's Church officiating. Full military honors will be accorded the Marine Corps veteran. A reception will follow the services to be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club on Chickering Drive. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 9 P.M. Memorial contributions in Mr. Aquadro's name may be made to Windham County Humane Society, P.O. Box 397, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
