Roger Matthew Dann, 61, of Madison, died suddenly on Friday, November 4th, while on vacation in Barbados with his wife Kathy.

Roger was born in Nyack, New York on September 23, 1955. He was recently retired as General Manager of the Wallingford Water and Sewer Division, a job that he held for almost 30 years. While general manager, he achieved many accomplishments and was instrumental in the design and construction of a new 8 MGD water treatment plant. At home, Roger could usually be found working on his car, listening to some of his favorite music, or watching the Yankees or UConn basketball. He was also an avid runner who ran in numerous road races and was an annual entrant in the Madison Turkey Trot.

His life took a dramatic change two years ago, when he and his wife were involved in a serious car accident. Roger sustained a traumatic brain injury which led family, friends and doctors to wonder if he would ever be able to walk or live independently again. However, in his determined fashion, he surpassed everyone's expectations. Not only did he walk, he was able to continue his passion for running and competed again in the 2015 Turkey Trot.

Roger is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy, their son Chris and his fiancé, Lauren, and their daughter, Jessica and her fiancé Andrew. He was so looking forward to their upcoming weddings, and his presence will be felt strongly at both ceremonies.

He is also survived by his siblings, Joyce (Larry) Gibson, Ron (Candy) Dann, Christine (Neal) Scott and was predeceased by his sister, Marion and his parents, Charlotte and Everett. He also leaves behind his sister-in law Karen (Ron) Roane, his brother-in-law Bob Cofer, and his mother-in-law, Lorraine Taylor, plus 10 nieces and nephews. Roger loved to spend time with his family, and they shared many fond memories together in Vermont, Cape Cod, and on many holidays.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Sandals Barbados for their kindness, compassion, and support during a very difficult time. They would also like to thank the many, many people who have come out in support of their family throughout the past two years, and Michael Antrum, who has been a companion, friend, and support system for Roger and the entire Dann family for the past year and a half.

Calling hours will be at Swan Funeral Home, Madison on Saturday, December 3rd from 1pm-3pm, with a memorial service immediately following.

In lieu of flowers the family requests gifts be made in Roger's memory to Traurig House at Gaylord Hospital. Please mail checks to Development Office, Gaylord Hospital, PO Box 400, Wallingford, CT 06492.
