Roger R. Swenson, age 90, of Alden, MN, died Friday, January 20, 2017 from a long battle with Parkinson's Disease at his home in Alden, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 30, 2017, at 2:00 PM, at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, with Pastor Greg Ofsdahl officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Alden American Legion and the Wells Color Guard.

Roger Raymond was born May 28, 1926, the son of Walter and Ann (Schultz) Swenson near Walnut Lake, south of Wells. He grew up on farms in the Wells area, and attended Alden and Albert Lea schools. Roger left school to work and help provide for his mother and 3 brothers. He served his country in the United States Army in the south Pacific. Upon his honorable discharge, he came back to Minnesota and worked for Land O' Lakes. Roger was united in marriage to the love of his life Erma B. Weirum on August 16, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD, and to this union one son, Kevin, was born. The couple made their home in Alden. Roger loved to play cards, travel, fish, and spend time at the family cabin in Spicer, MN. Roger enjoyed going to auctions, farming, and raising pigs. Most especially, he enjoyed running the combine, picking corn, and having a beautiful, weed free garden. He was a member of the American Legion for over 64 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Erma of 64 years (Oct. 19, 2015), sister-in-law, Eleanor Pedersen, and niece, Linda Jensen.

Roger is survived by his son, Kevin R. (wife Sandra) Swenson of Alden, MN; 4 step-grandchildren: Kari (Kurt) Mylenbusch, and Lee Felten (Crystal Wren, and her son Brandon), all of Trenton, MO, Raymond (Laura) Davis of Houston, TX, Angelique (Tyler) Carroll of Kansas, City, MO; 3 step-great-grandchildren: Riley and Hudson Mylenbusch of Trenton, MO, and Jace Davis of Houston, TX; brothers: Clarence (Sylvia) Swenson, Roy (Ardys) Swenson, and Lester Swenson; brother-in-law, Leo Pedersen; along with several nieces, nephews and their families; and special caregivers, Patti Holmseth and Melissa Grover.

The family wishes to thank all the Hospice staff and volunteers and also Veteran's Affairs.
