Roland David Brandon of Nacogdoches passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Nacogdoches Medical Center at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 2 days.

He was born December 9, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, to parents A.D. Brandon and Sybil (Roland) Brandon. His early years were spent in Eagle Pass, Texas, where his father was a U.S. Border Patrolman until he was transferred to Blaine, Washington where Roland graduated high school in 1964. Roland played football for Washington State, where he attended for a short time until his sense of duty and belief in the ideal of Semper Fi called him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He was very proud to be a Marine, even getting the Marine Corps emblem tattooed on his arm to celebrate his 50th birthday. He served in the Vietnam War, originally as a Machine Gunner, excelling in weaponry knowledge and repair, and then as an interpreter after showing an aptitude for languages. He remained fluent in both Spanish and Vietnamese his entire life.

After being honorably discharged, he earned an Associate's Degree in Engineering and began his life long career in the completion end of the Oil and Gas industry, working on oil rigs, in sales, and then as a consultant until his retirement. As a consultant, he was accomplished at managing large drilling projects where he was called upon to solve intricate and complex drilling jobs as his vast knowledge of the industry allowed him to oversee his projects from beginning to end. He made many lifelong friends throughout his successful career.

Roland and his wife Molly were inseparable from their very first date, a date that lasted the rest of his days. Roland was a loving Dad to Claire, and Grandfather to Claire's four children: Peyton, Cade, Ava Rose, and Jackson.

Roland was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved the outdoors. He was also extremely interested in history and historical documentaries.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at 5:00 pm at the home of Roland and Molly, officiated by Father Howard Castleberry.
