Ronald D. "Ronnie" Werling, 68, of Ossian passed away July 7, 2016. He was born on April 5, 1948 in Bluffton, a son of the late Donald and Juanita (Reese) Werling. Ron loved his country and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War earning a Purple Heart. Afterwards, he served in the Air National Guard. Ron worked as a truck driver, Ossian Town Marshall, and Ossian Police Commissioner. Ron didn't know a stranger and lit up the world with laughter and his smile. He was a great man and will be missed by many. He and his wife Brenda enjoyed staying busy while retired, from camping, craft shows, and tinkering in the shed and garage. Ron loved horses; he was a cowboy at heart. He always looked forward to horse pulls, pony pulls, and other 4-H events. Surviving family include his wife, Brenda Werling; son, Jamie (Megan Badger) Werling; step daughter, Jen (Austin) Girardot; granddaughters, Addison and Aubrey Girardot; brother, Terry (Judy) Werling; nephew, Lt. Col. Ryan (Shauna) Werling; niece, Kelli (Matt) Stoll; and great nieces and nephew, Addison, Mason, Madelyn, and Vivian. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his son, Jason Werling. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St., Ossian with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ossian.
