Ronald "Thumb" Preston Turner, 70, of Madison Heights answered God's call, departing this life on Friday, October 6, 2017, at his residence. He was the loving husband of 47 years to Mary Alice Turner. Born July 17, 1947, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Ronald Lee Turner, Jr. and the late Daisy Caster Ponton Turner.

Thumb was the retired owner/operator of Turner's Automotive. He also served our country in the U.S. Army with the Second Infantry Division, Unit 2/9th on the DMZ, during the second Korean conflict during the Vietnam Era. Thumb also loved his racing and race family, where he leaves some great memories to cherish.

In addition to his parents, Thumb was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Lee Turner.

In addition to his wife, Thumb is survived by two sons, Tommy Turner of Norfolk and Chris Turner of Madison Heights; one brother, Ralph Turner and his wife Robin of Rustburg; two grandchildren, Brianna Turner and Christian Turner; step father-in-law, Red Martin of Madison Heights; sister-in-law, Linda Goodman of Altavista; special friends, Ray Dillon, Turtle Murphy, Dink Middleton, Barbara Middleton, Sammy Cunningham and George Mitchell; and other loving family members and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor J. Mike Dodson and Pastor Jacob Uthup officiating. Interment will follow at Meade Cemetery in Madison Heights, where Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.
