Rosemarie D. Hall departed life peacefully at home on December 9th; she was 89 years old. A lifelong resident of James City County, she spent all but her final 12 years on her family property in the Grove area of the county.

For decades in the mid-1900's, she owned the structure that served as a landmark country store for the local people. She leased the building that was variously operated as Burnett's Market, TT's Market and Hall's Market. She was often seen working in the store and had many friends in the community. At that time, this part of the county was dominated by several large farms and was sparsely populated with the exception of the residential area, more commonly known as Grove.

Her property was located directly across from Carter's Grove Plantation, an historic site that was open to the public at that time. With her late husband Bill, they managed the land as a small farm and had a half dozen cottages that they rented out.

She and Bill were lifelong members of Lebanon Church of Christ but also attended Seaford Church for a period of time. For many years in later life, she and Bill were volunteers at Heritage Humane Society and helped organize many of their fund drives. She loved all living creatures, but was especially fond of her little dog, Lulu.

Rose is survived by her three children; Rose Ann Schueler (Jon) of Sacramento; Sandy Hall of Bakersfield; and Rick Hall of Williamsburg. She also has two granddaughters and three great-granddaughters from Rose Ann and Jon Schueler.

A visitation will be Wednesday, December 13th from 3-6pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. The service will be Thursday, December 14th at 1pm, also at Nelsen Funeral Home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185 (www.heritagehumanesociety.org). Online condolences for the family may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com.
