Roy Richard Verret passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the age of 97. Beloved husband of 45 years to Nettie S. Verret. Son of the late Roy Oscar Verret and Marie Donaldson Verret. He was the father of two sons, Roy (wife, Sharon) and William (wife, Julia). He was preceded in
death by his four sisters: Lois Garidel, Betty Vickers, Marie Abney and Grace Gill. Grandfather of Jon, Scott, William, Melissa and Jason Verret (wife, Stacy) and the great-grandfather of Joshua, Jase, Zachary, Windsor and Theresa Verret. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Verret was a native of Garyville, LA and a longtime resident of Metairie, LA. He became a US Navy veteran of World War II who served two tours of duty aboard the vessels, the USS Asterion and the USS Richmond. Also, while serving in the Navy, he held the title for undefeated bantamweight championship during 1937 and 1938. Later, he joined the ranks of the United States Postal Service (Johnson Street branch) where he served the neighborhoods of Metairie until his retirement in 1973. His next endeavor was his post-retirement services in the maintenance department of East Jefferson General Hospital.
The family wishes to thank everyone at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve for the excellent ongoing care and compassion given to Roy and Nettie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA from 9:00 am until 11:00 am followed by a celebration of life ceremony. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
