John Roy Dillard, age 89, entered his Heavenly Home on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born March 16, 1928 to Claude Temple and Pearl Drewery Dillard. He married Faye Graham on June 24, 1955. He was a 1947 graduate of Hurricane High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player. He was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed quail, deer and duck hunting. He enjoyed his life on the farm, especially his time with his cattle. He was a member of the Pontotoc County Republican Executive Committee.

Roy accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 34. He became an active member of Hurricane Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Prior to his death, he was the oldest member of Hurricane Baptist Church. He was an active Deacon from 1971 to 2000. One of his greatest joys was attending the annual Bible Conference each December at his church. In spite of his declining health, he was able to attend all revivals and Conferences until 2017.

Roy was a fun, loving person. He could tell you a tale that you would believe and know at the same time that it could not be true. He enjoyed dining at Seafood Junction and Kirk's Grill. He enjoyed the beautiful scenery on the Natchez Trace each year. He loved to see the beauty of God's creation as it changed from Spring to Fall each season.

Roy was a close family man. He had many, many friends and the prayers, cards and visits from the friends in various communities, counties, and states, have showed it during his illness.

Services will be on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Hurricane Baptist Church with Pastor Philip Brock and nephew Bro. Colt Hooker officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

He will be missed by all, but most of all his devoted wife of 62 years, Faye Graham Dillard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, C. Dean Dillard (Betty); sisters, Ester D. Jarrett (Estel), Jewel Mize (Kyle), Lorene D. Perry (Charles) and Pat D. Busby (George); nieces, Jean Bevill, Bobbie Lundgren; nephews, Kyle D. Mize, and a nephew-in-law, Philip Bryant. His family survivors were Linda Bryant, Rex Jarrett and family, Jackie Bevill and family, Tim Busby and family, Barry Busby and family, Denise Dillard Crawford and family, Janet Dillard, and Ronnie Lundgren and family.

Hooker, Graden, Cade, Megan, Sophie, Ella and Maggie, Colt Hooker, Brooke, Aden, Braxton and Harper.
