Ruben Lee Dixon was born on September 21, 1944 and passed away June 5, 2017, following an extended illness, at the age of 72. A native of McBee, South Carolina, his parents were Hewitt (Hugh) and Mae Ella Dixon.

A retired veteran of the US Army, Sgt. Dixon had received numerous commendations ribbons and medals and served tours of duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his retirement, he was employed by the US Postal Service as a shuttle driver. His route included post offices in Monterey County and San Jose. Following his employment at the US Postal Service, he owned and operated his own trucking company, "R L Dixon Trucking". He was under contract to the US Postal Service until his health prevented his continuance. He was also a long time food vendor at the Blues Festival until its dissolution.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Filiga; his mother, Mae Ella Dixon of McBee, SC; six daughters, Vanessa Dixon Wilson of Canton GA, Naureece Dixon, Sandra Dixon, Samantha Dixon, Sierra Dixon and Leilani Dixon all of Marina, CA; three sons, Ruben Dixon, Jr. of Bethune, SC, Arthur Filipo and Tyron Dixon both of Marina, CA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Audriana Filipo, Larissa Filipo and Evan Wilson; three great-grandchildren, Kayden Filipo, Evelyln Filipo and Salayna Dixon; three sisters, Shirley Dixon Hannah (Harry) of Bishopville, SC, Nallie Dixon Aldrich (Jackie) of McBee, SC and Seberena Dixon Grant of Lawrenceville, GA; two brothers, Hewitt Dixon of McBee SC and Randolph Dixon of Lancaster, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Hewitt (Hugh) Dixon; and siblings, Rickey Dixon and Ella Dixon Harrison Dell.

Friends may pay their respects at Bayside Community Mortuary, 1610 Noche Buena Street, Seaside on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00am at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 390 Elm Avenue, Seaside where Ruben was baptized. The service will be followed by a presentation of military honors. Inurnment will be at a later date at California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery.
