Russell Francis Libby
Born on the 23rd day in August, 1936 in Biddeford, Maine to Katherine Elizabeth and Sterling Listern Libby.
Raised in Maine, he enjoyed swimming in the ocean for hours on end. He also loved being welcomed home by his mother with cucumber and tomato sandwiches! During the cold months, he would ice skate and trek about the Maine woods picking wild blueberries. He also remembers his father, Sterling, getting a large, beautiful pine tree from the woods every Christmas.
At the tender age of just 17 years old, he followed in his father's and brother's footsteps to serve his country by getting his parents to sign a letter of permission for early enlistment in the United States Army. He loved his friends and remembers peeling lots of potatoes due to his classic east coast wit and sarcasm. He trained very hard to serve his country with pride and honor for twenty two years. He was the recipient of The Purple Heart, earned during one of his three Vietnam tours. He also served in the United States Honor Guard, where he was assigned to protect the President of The United States the day before Kennedy's assassination.
Russell Francis Libby is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria Viera Libby, through thick and thin, buddies, pals, and friends. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a most devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and faithful friend to his loyal companions, Nemo and Lexie. His legacy of devotion, faith, and endurance will be missed by all who knew him, but certainly never forgotten.
Until we meet again, may the Lord hold you in the palm of his hand.
