Ruth Y. Decker, 101 years, 4 months, and 9 days old, of East Stroudsburg passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Spring Village at Pocono. She was the loving wife of the late Frank B. Decker who passed away on May 9, 2000.
Born at the beginning of the new era, on December 18, 1915, Ruth was the daughter and only child of the late Charles and Grace (Huff) Young of Sparta, NJ.
Ruth was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a graduate of Newton NJ High School, Class of 1933. After losing her father at the age of 7, Ruth and her mother purchased a boarding house and operated it for many years. Ruth was an only child and at a young age, she would wash clothes, dishes, and help with the housekeeping of their boarding house. Ruth met her husband Frank while working for a lumber company as a bookkeeper. They wed on her birthday, December 18, 1942 at Camp Holibird, Md. under the sabers at a military wedding.
Once the family relocated to the Poconos, Ruth began a 15 year career at The East Stroudsburg State College as a bookkeeper. Ruth retired in 1977 and enjoyed a life revolved around her family and friends.
Ruth loved music. She was a dancer and also a pianist. Ruth had an uncanny eye for fashion. Never, would Ruth be spotted in public, nor at home, without a perfectly coordinated outfit with all the necessary accessories. She loved to watch the Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Polka, The Lawrence Welk Show, and especially golf on the weekends.
Her quick wit, charm, and smile will never be forgotten.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons: Ronald Decker and his wife Margie, of East Stroudsburg, PA and Robert Decker and his wife Joan, of Mt. Dora, FL; grandchildren: Amanda Decker Astrologo and her husband Nick, of Charlotte, NC, Adam Decker and his wife Cherlyn, of Castle Rock, CO, Stacy Decker, of Davenport, FL, Chris Decker and his wife Monica, of East Stroudsburg, PA, and Lauren Jalbert and her husband John, of Mt.
