Sally Sophie "Zoska" Kowaleski died Friday August 11, 2017. She was 98. She was born in Dupont, PA on May 2, 1919 to the late Martin and Anna (Pluta) Wolak. With no jobs in her hometown, Sally followed her sisters to Port Chester, New York where they were able to find work. She worked at Yale & Town for many years. Sally married Stanley Kowaleski on Valentine's day, February 14, 1942. While raising her 2 daughters she served as a waitress at dinner parties for prominent families of the 1950's and 1960's such as the Hesses, the Liones, the Carlbacks and the Sterns. When her children were grown, she found what she called "the perfect little job" at Lamston's 5& 10 in the Ridgeway Shopping Center. When the store closed, she worked at Sloan's Furniture. Upon her retirement, she was a homemaker who loved to cook for her children and grandchildren. She walked everywhere__the grocery store, downtown, church. She even walked from the springdale cemetery after visiting her husband's grave___a very long walk.
Surviving are her children, Andrea Johansen of Greenwich and Jane Kowaleski of Stamford, her grandchildren, Peter Johansen Jr. of Greenwich and Timothy Johansen and his wife, Karen of Port Chester. Also Surviving are her Brother Edward Wolak of Greenwich and Sister, Helen (Penny) Koytek of Dupont, PA and many nephews and nieces.

Sally was predeceased by her husband Stanley, her son-in-law Peter Johansen Sr., her siblings Agnes Garr, Stella Bryscak, Victoria Corcoran, John Wolak, Mary Townsend, Jule Townsend, Katherine (Kitty) Gainey, Andrew Wolak, Charlotte Weigel and Gertrude Krol and nephews Buddy Garr, Michael Garr, Jack Corcoran, Alfred Koytek and nieces Shirley Cartisano, Joan Bryszak, Barbara Bryszak and Paula Wolak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday August 16, 2017 at 10 am t St Bridget of Ireland Church. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery, Darien CT. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in Sally's name would be appreciated to St Bridget of Ireland Parish, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave, Stamford CT 06902
