Sammie Mack Cook, 84, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at home in Midlothian, Texas surrounded by loved ones.

Sam was born in Ryan, Oklahoma, March 16, 1933, to Henry Hudson Cook and Dollye Vista Davis Cook. Upon his mother's untimely death when he was four, Sam was raised by his father and stepmother, Ethel McGraw along with two half-brothers Ray and Henry, Jr.

At 18, Sam entered the Air Force serving 3 ½ years in Germany as a Teletype mechanic. After his service, he reunited with the love of his life, Thelma June Ward. They married on August 25, 1954.

Sam worked in the oil fields of West Texas and Oklahoma as roughneck and electrician, later moving into the milk business in Andrews, Texas, then transferring to Fort Worth with Oak Farms Dairy in 1967. In 1969, Sam went to work for the Texas Turnpike Authority, transferring to Houston in 1980, then Dallas in 1994, retiring from NTTA in 1998. Sam demonstrated devotion to his family by his example of hard work and sacrifice on their behalf.

Sam's kindness and generosity were not limited to his family. He was active in his local church wherever he lived. He distributed Bibles with Gideons International. Sam and June enjoyed delivering meals and ministering to the elderly with Meals on Wheels until his health prohibited him from continuing.
