Samuel Henry Bays, 67 of Charleston passed away Sunday February 12, 2017 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.





Sam was born in Charleston on January 4, 1950 to the late Emory & Bertha Null Bays. He was a retired plant manager with Union Carbide. After his retirement, he opened and managed several Subway Restaurant Franchises. Everyone enjoyed being around him, because he had an infectious laugh and great sense of humor. He was a huge Mountaineer sports fan and never missed a game and also loved hunting, fishing, playing golf and watching WWE. He loved spending time with his DuPont High School 1969 friends and enjoyed a West Virginia style hot dog.





Along with his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Jimmy, Shelby, Delmar and Doyle “Gene” Bays.





Left to cherish his memory are his Children, Samuel “Hank” Bays, April Bays, Julie Valentin and Erin Bays; siblings, Thelma Boggess, Martha Gresham, Trillis Leftwich, Emory “Ray” & David Bays; grandchildren, Sergeant Devan Bays, Olivia & Madison Rhodes, Ryleigh Woods, Zachary Valentin, Trevor & Morgan Bays; great grandson, Carson Bays; and many cousin, nieces and nephews.





A memorial service will be held Thursday February 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Major Mike Allen officiating. Inurnment will be at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar at a later date.
