Santo P. Tomasello, 89, beloved husband of 59 years to Mary Berladyn Tomasello of Branford passed away September 26, 2013 in CT Hospice. Cherished father of Mary Jane (Gregory) Ruthven of Woodbury, Fred (Stephanie) Tomasello and Paula (Anthony) Fraenza both of Branford and Joseph (Evelyn) Tomasello of East Haven. Loving grandfather of Michael (Alicia) Fraenza and Christopher Fraenza, Daniel (Megan) Ruthven, MD., Maria (Michael) Tamsin, Marisa Ruthven, Alex, Adrianna, Elise, Nicholas and Mia Tomasello. Loving great grandfather of Julia Terese Fraenza and Anthony Joseph Fraenza both of whom he adored. Son of the late Giuseppe and Jennie LaRosa Tomasello. Brother of Domenica Nunziante of Branford and the late Angelina Papalardo, Concetta, Mary and John Tomasello. He also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews to whom he was known as "Uncle Sonny". He was predeceased by a nephew Billy McHugh. Prior to his retirement Santo was a Security Officer for the Hospital of St. Raphael and also worked for the former Federal Paper Board Co. and the East Haven Board of Education. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus Council 11245 and a member of the American Legion. Santo was a WWII Army veteran and served with the 135th Combat Engineers under General George Patton. He was involved in the sport of boxing for many years where he was know as "Ron Santo". The family would like to thank the Staff at CT Hospice for their compassionate, loving gentle care and support. His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte 80) East Haven Monday morning at 9:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 9:30. Interment with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call SUNDAY from 4:00-7:00 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
