Sara Chavez Salazar, 94, surrounded by her family, was called home on Saturday, November 8, 2014. She was born to Gonzalo and Manuela Chavez on March 21, 1920. Sara married Estanislado Salazar, Sr. on January 17, 1937. Their everlasting love produced seven sons and one daughter. Sara devoted her life to her family. When the children were growing up and working as migrant workers, she would start her day at 4:00 a.m., prepare breakfast and lunches, work a full day beside her family, then return home, prepare supper, awake the next day to do it all over again. Sara never complained. This was her family and that is what mothers do.

Waiting to receive and escort her into heaven were her parents; brother, Gonzalo Jr.; her devoted husband; sons, Estanislado Salazar, Jr., and Fidel “Wahoo” Salazar; and daughter, Angelica “Angie” Salazar Gonzales.

Those left to cherish her memory and continue a legacy of love, are her sister, Guadulupe Chavez; sons; Enrique (Dolores) Salazar of Menchaca, Texas, Juan (Karla) Salazar of Noco, California, Roberto Salazar of Sinton, Texas, Raul (Elizabeth) Salazar of San Antonio, Texas and Rodolfo (JoAnn) Salazar of Markham, Texas; daughters-in-law, Minerva Salazar and Olga Salazar both of Taft, Texas; twenty-six grandchildren; sixty-one great grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 11, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Taft. Burial will follow the service at Taft Memorial Park.
