Sara Elizabeth "Mammaw" Nash, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 12, 2014. She passed away peacefully at her son's home, surrounded by family. She was born in Meridian, MS, but spent most of her life in the Thomasville Community in rural Rankin County. A retired merchant, "Mammaw" was a sweet, kind, caring spirit, who never met a stranger. She was loved by all who met her. A wonderful cook, she was especially known for her delicious recipes handed down through the years. Her creations were welcomed by her church family and friends at Church events. She and her husband, Horace, owned and operated Nash Grocery in Thomasville and Nash Florist in Pearl.
A longtime member of Dry Creek Baptist Church in the Thomasville community, she held many titles during her time there, from Sunday School teacher, choir member, and church pianist. She is preceded in death by her adoptive parents, L.W. and Josie Berry; husband, Horace D. Nash; and grandson, Christopher Nash.
She is survived by her children, Doyle W. Nash (Susie), Jim Nash (T.J.), Wanda Nash, Joe Nash (Mary Jane), Mike Nash, Donald Nash, Richard Nash (Jan), Sharon Campbell (Jimmy), and Joyce Nash, and a brother, J.W. Sessions of Baton Rouge, LA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and her dog, Stormy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15, at Dry Creek Baptist Church, from 4:00-6:00pm, with fellowship at the church from 6:00-7:00pm, with visitation resuming from 7:00-9:00pm. The service will be held Wednesday, July 16, at Dry Creek Baptist Church at 1:00pm, with visitation held prior from 10:00am-12:00pm.
