Selma Marie "Reedy" McClure, aged 87, died peacefully on August 17, 2017 at her temporary residence in The Villages of Lake Highlands, Dallas, Texas. Selma was born July 10, 1930, in Justin, Texas, the daughter of Floyd L. Whittington and Julia Peterson Whittington. Friends and family knew her as Reedy.
Reedy was the youngest of three children. She grew up in the small rural town environment in Justin during the Depression and later wartime rationing.
In 1949, Reedy married the love of her life Richard "Dick" McClure. Soon after their marriage, Reedy and Dick moved to Dallas where he worked at the Ford assembly plant near Fair Park. When Dick was drafted into the Army they lived in Panama for a year. They returned to Dallas where he started his career as a truck driver for Safeway Stores and she worked as a homemaker. They were married 45 years until his death.
Reedy and Dick had many good friends. She especially liked visiting and talking with family and friends. She usually had a joke to tell, and would spend hours visiting at her kitchen table, and could spend an hour on the phone with someone to talk and catch up.
Reedy was predeceased by her husband, her sister Christine and brother George.
Reedy is survived by her son Jim, her son Mark and his wife Katherine, her grandsons Daniel, Brian and Jack, and many family and friends.
