Sharlyn Wynette (Day) Williams was born in Knox City, Texas on November 27, 1941, and passed away peacefully on October 18, 2017. Sharlyn attended school in O'Brien and after graduating from O'Brien High School she earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Abilene Christian College. She spent her career teaching children in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Midland, Texas, Anchorage, Alaska, and later retired from Dyess Elementary School in Abilene, Texas after 30 years of service.
Sharlyn had a passion for life and she could hardly sit still. She loved to shop, she traveled the world extensively, she loved to two-step and spent time teaching adult literacy. Sharlyn was quick to laugh, hugged everyone, loved to socialize, and loved her friends and family deeply.
Sharlyn is survived by her sons, Troy Williams of Abilene, and Eric Williams and his husband Paul Sirbaugh of Houston, Don Williams; her sister, Gail Hart; her nieces, Shaynan Runnels, Brandi Neville, and Janet Winstead; her grandniece, McKenzy Martin; grand-nephew Logan Martin; and her great-grand-nephew, Aiden Retana. Sharlyn adored Aiden. He called her "Sister", made her laugh, and she loved to chase him around the room.
Services for Sharlyn Williams will be held on Saturday October 21, 2017, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas; graveside rights to follow. Viewing will be from 10:00AM to 2:00PM, with services beginning at 2:00PM.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Elmon Higgs, Don Rogers, David Jones, and Michael Newton.
