Sheila Margaret Sellers Burks, 77. Our beloved mother and friend, resident of Terrell Country Club Lake, passed away November 9, 2016.

Born in Terrell, Texas in 1939 to J.W. Sellers and Mildred Stribling Sellers, Sheila grew up in Terrell and Kaufman, graduating valedictorian of Kaufman High School in 1958.

Sheila earned degrees in Speech Language Pathology at North Texas State University and Texas Woman’s University, and a PhD from the University of Missouri, Columbia. As a speech pathologist for over 30 years, Sheila worked with children with communication disorders, helped veterans learn to speak after tracheotomies, helped patients learn to swallow after having feeding tubes, taught university students, and managed a rehabilitation clinic.

Sheila became a Master Gardener for the Kaufman County Extension office in her retirement. She lived in Albuquerque, NM from 2006 to 2013, and adored the natural beauty of the Sandia Mountains.

Sheila’s causes were protecting the environment, women’s shelters, and feeding the hungry. She loved her family, flowers, growing things, cooking, books, animals, birds, and nature in general. She was strong, independent, loving, and giving.

Sheila is survived by two daughters, Sharon Burks Horos and Pamela Dailey; son-in-law Troy Dailey; son-in-law David Horos; grandson Joseph Horos; cousins Carolyn Calvin, Greta Jean Speary, Howard Sellers, Aaron Brown; and extended family.

The family will hold an informal reception on Saturday, December 10 from 1-3pm at The Garden Event Center, 819 Moore Ave, Terrell, Texas. We invite everyone to gather in remembrance of Sheila to share memories and celebrate her life.

We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
