FRYE, Sherry Blalock, 70, of Midlothian, Va., peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, September 15, 2017. She was born November 5, 1946 in Charleston, S.C. the daughter of John Henry Sr. and Onie Elizabeth Bowman Blalock. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John Henry Blalock, Jr. She was retired from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri. Her varied professional career included positions in both South Carolina and Virginia state government agencies, corporate level human resource management and hospital administration. She was active in church activities over the years in South Carolina, Ohio, Missouri and Virginia. Her areas of participation included teaching, music and a special interest in women's group program activities. In Richmond, she was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church. She was a past board member of the Virginia ELCA Women's organization. In the past, she tutored under privileged children on their reading skills. She volunteered and served as a fund raiser for several charities and as an adult leader in both Cub and Boy Scouts programs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music for personal enjoyment as an adult studying piano and guitar and serving as a church bell ringer. She was a caring, thoughtful easy mannered person who always looked for and saw the good in others and the community around her. She was married for 49 years to her surviving husband Joseph Delbert Frye, Jr. She is also survived by son, Joseph Kevin Frye and daughter-in-law Kristin Frye and grand-daughter Skyler Ella Frye of Chesterfield; brother and sister-in-law, David and Rhonda Blalock of Bonneau, S.C.; brother-in-law Rodney Glenn Frye of Tampa, Fla; sister-in-law and husband Jean and Lee Hook of Lexington, S. C.; three nephews Todd Blalock of Lexington, S.C., Troy Blalock of Columbia, S.C. and Elisha Blalock of Bonneau, S.C. and two nieces Katie and Emmalee Blalock of Bonneau, S.C. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 21 at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 9800 W. Huguenot Road, Richmond. The family will greet visitors at a reception following the service. Entombment to follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
