Shirley Yvonne Balfour of Tariffville, CT, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Shirley was born in Lucea, Hanover, in Jamaica, W.I. Born to the late Touzlin Balfour and Rebecca (Mulgrave) Balfour. She grew up in Lucea and graduated from Green Island Secondary School in Hanover before moving to Hartford, CT, with her son, Kevin. Shirley was a dedicated employee of CT Mutual, Aetna and CIGNA, providing a combined 20 years of service. Never one to stay idle, she continued to work helping others and was a valued caregiver for Companions and Homemakers and also worked in Quality Control at Amazon. Shirley has been a devoted member of Charity Seventh Day Adventist Church since 1989, where she served diligently in many capacities, including as Pathfinder teacher, and also served in the following departments: Treasury, Usher, AYS, Fundraising, Communication, Community Service, just to name a few. She also made a lasting and meaningful impact on all of the children she taught as a Sabbath school youth teacher. Shirley was a longtime resident of Hartford before her move to Tariffville, CT. Shirley is survived by her beloved son Kevin (Mark) Campbell and his wife, Nicole, and her cherished granddaughter, Kayden. She is also survived by her seven siblings, Sybil Balfour of Windsor, CT; Hervin Balfour of Jamaica; Beryl Ruddock and her husband, Logan, of the UK; Pearl Boyd and her husband, Raphael, of Indian Trail, NC; Astor Balfour and his wife, Carmen, of Atlanta, GA; Michael Balfour and his wife, Mauva, of Windsor, CT; Arlington Balfour of the UK; six nieces, eight nephews, three god-children, four great-nieces, three great-nephews, and a host of extended family and close friends who treasured her.
