Sister Jean Richter, age 88, of Sinsinawa, WI, was called home peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the Motherhouse. To honor Sister Jean's life, The Mass of Christian Burial will be in the Queen of the Rosary Chapel at the Motherhouse at 11:00 a.m. To celebrate Sister Jean's life, family and friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gathering Place Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in St. Clara Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Jean was born on July 19, 1927, in Chicago, IL, daughter of Herbert and Margaret (Finley) Richter. She made her profession on August 5, 1948.

Sister Jean used her talents in many ways. A lifelong learner, her studies took her to universities in Madison, WI; New York; Fribourg, Switzerland and Paris, France.

Sister Jean taught in parish schools and the Edgewood Campus School, Madison, WI, before beginning a 30 year commitment to the Edgewood College community in Madison. She served as faculty member and chair of the history department, assistant director of the Weekend Degree program, college archivist, and writer/editor of college publications. Sister Jean served five years as Dean of Rosary College Graduate School of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy.

Those left to cherish Sister Jean's memory include,

her sister,
Margaret "Peggy" Wolfe;

a niece and nephew;

and the Sinsinawa Dominicans with whom she shared life for 67 years.
